Development Process

Seeds of Science/Roots of Reading units have been developed and evaluated under a grant from the National Science Foundation. Each unit is created by experts in science education and in literacy education, with input from working scientists in the relevant field (such as biology or chemistry). Each unit is designed to meet national and state science and literacy standards. The units are field tested in classrooms around the country and feedback from teachers and students is incorporated into final versions. Research to measure the effectiveness of Seeds of Science/Roots of Reading units has found that students who learn science and literacy in an integrated way make significantly greater gains in both science and literacy learning.
